Tag Definitions

  1. What is an entity? An entity is essentially a proper noun. Any person, asset, product and place/location can be used to create an entity.

  2. What is an event? An event is a situation that can occur alongside other similar situations, creating a theme. For instance, you may have the theme “Bankruptcy” and underneath that theme, you have various events such as liquidation, defaults, debt and more.

  3. What is a signal? A signal is the pairing of an entity and event. When an entity is identified and there is an event nearby (textually) to that entity, they are paired together, creating a signal. Within an article, there may be multiple signals around various entities and events.

Accern Collection

  1. Accern features 40,000+ ready-made entities. These entities include the following asset classes.

    1. U.S. Equities

    2. International Equities

    3. Cryptocurrencies

    4. Forex

    5. Commodities

    6. OTC Market

    7. Private Sector

  2. Different entities can be selected from countries, exchanges, sectors, regions and more. You can also type in the desired entities individually underneath the correct asset class. For instance, you can choose from S&P 500 under indices, or you can search for Apple Inc in the search bar for US Equity.

  3. Accern features 200+ ready-made events (themes). These events are contained within various event groups.

  4. When selecting your events, you can choose to have them all applied, choose one or more event groups, or choose individual events. For instance, you can choose to have all Merger & Acquisition events by selecting on that event group, or you can click on the drop down arrow to select an individual event such as Mergers alone.

Custom Collection

    1. If you would like to create an entity while selecting your tags (i.e., in case you forgot one entity and would like to add it into your use case), you can click the “Add New” button and quickly create your entity. When created here, the entity will be approved and only needs to be synced to the knowledge graph.

  1. Events

    1. If you would like to create an event while selecting your tags (i.e., in case you forgot one event and would like to add it into your use case), you can click the “Add New” button and quickly create your event. When created here, the event will be approved and only needs to be synced to the knowledge graph.

  2. Sync your custom entries into the knowledge graph

    1. With any custom entities or events, they will need to be synced with the knowledge graph to be recognized/selected within your use case. In this section “Select Tag and Filter Data” you will see the sync knowledge graph button. You will click this when new custom entities and events are added here while building a use case. The process is slightly different when adding custom entities and events underneath knowledge graph management.

Upload CSV

  1. If you have a bulk set of entities or events you would like to upload amongst one or more asset classes/event groups, it would be easiest to select them via the “Upload CSV” button.

  2. Once you choose between entities or events, you see a popup with an upload button. Clicking on this button allows you to upload a CSV with your entity choices from either the Accern or Custom collection.

  3. You are limited to 500 - 2000 tags per CSV upload dependent on format. The format of your CSV should be the following

    1. Name(s), Ticker(s), AccernID(s), FIGI(s) - column headers (entities), Name(s) only for events)

    2. Apple Inc, AAPL, AccernID, Apple FIGI Code, event name - row 1, 2,...n (match input with header)

When selecting tags, you have access to choose from both the Accern and Custom collections. With the custom collection, you will only be able to see what you or your organization has created. There will be further explanation around how to create robust custom entities and events when we get to the section.
